Hitachi NT65MA2 15 Gauge 11/4Inch to 2 1/2Inch

Posted on 18 December 2009 by admin

Long nails into hardwood? No problem. Working overhead? It's only 4.2 pounds. Despise having the exhaust in your face? Tool-free, 360-degree adjustment takes care of that. No time for jams? Clearing takes no more than a couple of seconds because of the quick-release nose. The magazine is made of nylon, but it seems as rugged to us as any metal magazine out there. That's also why this nailer is so simple on the hands. Add to that a nicely padded grip and a selective trigger and you'd reckon you have the perfect nailer. But get this—there's a built-in dust blower that clears light debris and dust from your workpiece. Hitachi quality leaves nothing to want.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ....read more

Absolutly the best gun out there, hands down
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Gosh, where do you even start, with a nail gun like the Hitachi NT65MA2? I’ve been a Superintendent for both residential and commercial for 5 years, and this is the gun I was seeing day in and day out, for all end work. The handle is fantastic, the balance is excellent, its light weight, simple to load, and I personally have never had my jamb up but it’s extremely simple to remove jamb nails with the latch right on the front. It has the moving directional exhaust, which is very nice, when you don’t want to get the exhaust shooting you in the face at times. But the best part of this gun I feel is the air blower button. When you’re installing baseboard or anything on the floor, it’s annoying when you have to sweep up all the small pcs. of tile, or grout then you get back to that section and there’s more. Those days of carrying around a small duster are over. If you want a gun that’s going to get handed down from generation to generation this Hitachi is for you. This isn’t the only Hitachi gun I own and they are all absolutely perfect to me. Also I’m a huge fan of tools that have cases, and this nail gun comes with a very nice Hitachi case and safety glasses, also I was able to get a box of 1000 2 1/2 end nails in it also and nothing moves around its small things like that, that make your day go by simpler. Sorry this review was kind of long and off subject a small maybe, but when I buy things the reviews are what you need to base your buy on sometimes, because were all people who have already bought the item, and used it. I own a small General Contracting Co. and websites like Amazon always seem to have the best prices, and that what small business are looking for to keep afloat. Hope this review was helpful. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

fantastic nailer — but it doesn’t like Bostitch nails
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m not as experienced with nailers as a lot of the folks that have already posted here. I’m only posting to chime in and say that this nailer seems to be a very fine tool.

My only problem with it was with Bostitch 2 1/2in nails. These nails jammed terribly in my gun. Apparently they are collated at a different angle than the Senco and other nails that are available for 15 gauge nailers. I’ve run several sticks of Senco 2 1/2in nails without a single problem.

    Fantastic End Nailer

Bought this due to building a 12 x 16 shed with T&G aspen siding. Was and still am blown away. This nailer is well balanced, lightweight

and just a plain workhorse. No nail jams, simple depth adjustment, plenty of power for other hardwood moulding, and the no mar front piece works fantastic.

Have used Dewalt and Bostitch smaller gauge nailers in the past for smaller trim and woodworking projects, but the Hitachi is far superior.

And for the price, you can’t beat it. The only thing needed in the next version is a lockout feature so the gun won’t fire when you’re out of nails.

Other reviewers have already said it, so I’ll keep it small and say it with stars. This nailer is high quality and an brilliant product. I don’t have experience with other nailers for comparison, but I would recommend this one without hesitation.

This was bought after some research. This gun does what it was built for. The air blower comes in handy although a large hand will tend to activate it accidentally.I like the size compared to other guns(sleeker). All in all a excellent buy

I’ve been looking for a 15ga nailer for some time now and finally settled upon the Hitachi after inspecting it up close at another location. I like the depth of drive and the other features along with the Hitachi dependability.

    Wonderful Tool!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have used this nail gun while working installing hardwood flooring. My boss has one and it has been the best, most reliable 15 gauge nail gun I have ever used!

I had a Ridgid 15 gauge nail gun. It was excellent except the magazine is some sort of plastic and would distort. The “follower” that pushes the nails into the firing chaMber would slip off the nails and jam between the nails and the magazine slides. Certainly not acceptable.

I sold that Ridgid gun and bought this Hitachi (on sale on Amazon at the time for $125.00).

I am so glad I got this Hitachi nail gun!!!! I don’t have the problems I had with the Ridgid. Mostly because this Hitachi is mostly metal not the ridiculous plastic being used by most manufacturers today (even Hitachi in their other, cheaper, line of nail guns).

I like the duster button to clear out the work area quickly. The power is wonderful! It easily drives 2″ to 2 1/2″ end nails into hardwood flooring. The countersink adjustment is simple. The quick release for jams is just exactly that, Quick! The firing selector (from select to “Bump” fire) is a simple flick of a lever. The nail gun has all the features you would want for a professional grade tool and the incredible reliability to go along with it. I know it lasts also as my bosses gun is now over three years ancient, being used every day, without any tune-up or seal replacement and still going strong!

Certainly buy this nail gun and forget the cheaper stuff out there. Get this model before Hitachi stops making it and focusing only on the cheap plastic nail gun line they seem to be developing.

    Fantastic nailer
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought Hitachi based on reviews and it has lived up to the hype. Over 2000 nails in the first 2 days and not one problem. If I ever run into any sort of problem I’ll update but it seems unlikely; there isn’t one thing about this nailer to pick at.

I want to add that I really like the case as well. I reckon all nailers should come with a case.

    Fantastic Nailer
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve done end carpentry for nearly twenty years and have had this gun for the last three. It is fantastic! I’ve had no problems that I can reckon of and I like the blower function. The only minor con is that it leaves a honestly large hole. This can be minimized by fine tuning the depth adjustment to the project, but you’d probably need a very well regulated air source to avoid pulling out the nail set… Also like their framing nailer- its a tank.

  13. JLTrim Says:

Stop searching. This is the gun you want.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought two of these nailers a few years ago and could not be more impressed. They are flawless performers and incredibly reliable. The only repair job I’ve needed was after one fell from a 12 foot ladder onto a concrete slab and cracked the plastic sliding nail-feeder piece.

One of them was stolen recently and I did not hesitate to buy an identical gun to replace it, they are just that reliable. They have been dropped, dragged, used as “persuaders” to tap moldings into place, plus they’ve fired countless thousands of nails, I’ve hit many screwheads/metal straps/nail guards/etc, but they have yet to misfire a shot.

Not one misfire or malfunction in over 3 years of hard use! They have plenty of power, an easily adjustable depth setting dial, and the built-in blower has come in handy more times than I can count.

While Hitachi products in general are excellent and lasting (I bought a Framing nailer) the Hitachi End nailers I received (twice) were not made in Japan even though on Amazon’s website anyone can see from its picture that Hitachi End nailer is “Made in Japan”. I finished up return both items, unsued, for refunds.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This nailer from Hitachi is an brilliant tool. It is lightweight and quite simple to handle, yet plenty of power to drive long nails in hard woods. The pricing is very reasonable for a quality tool. It uses standard nails readily available. I got this nailer to replace a Senco nailer. The Hitachi works just as well, if not a bit better. Lower cost as well.

You won’t go incorrect in purchasing this tool. I bought one back in May and it has worked flawlessly every time I’ve used it. It’s light weight, simple to load and the depth setting adjusts with just a couple of turns. If you need a solid nailer, this is the one to get.

    so far very nice
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Have used this only a few days, and it’s my very first nail gun, so I don’t have much to compare it to. It took me awhile to realize that the “no mar” nose piece is clipped onto the magazine. I marred a few pieces of word before realizing this.

The gun is very fine quality, comfortable to hold, and so far I have not had a jam or or any problem in over 200 nails (bulls-eye brand, 2.5″ galvanized).

I must say that the “air blast” button is absurdly located, and you’ll wind up hitting it accidentally several times per day at least. This is scary every time. It’s a fantastic feature to have, though, but seems like it should have been simple for Hitachi to place elsewhere.

The case is adequate, although the latches are cheap plastic and seem flimsy. The gun comes with the nicest pair of work glasses I’ve ever used. Awesome.

Overall I reckon the gun is a fantastic value for the price and a solid performer.

  22. JR Says:

    Fantastic Nail Gun
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like this nail gun. But if you’re like me, you’re here more to find out what’s incorrect with a tool than what’s right about it.

Everything is perfect, and I’d buy another one without even looking to see what’s new and exciting out there. And that’s saying a lot coming from me. But if I had to complain about anything…

The depth adjuster is a narrow plastic knurled barrel that is only partially finger accessible. It’s hard to describe, but when you try setting it, you’ll see what I mean, and if you have large fingers too, you’ll see why I’d re-design it. It’s not horrible, it’s just a bit awkward. It’s also not the type of thing you have to mess around with very often, so this really is a very minor complaint.

I should also add that when I got my nailer, I didn’t realize that I had to crank the )(#*% out of the depth adjuster to get it to go a perceptible amount. I really thought it was broken, until I cranked the thing many revolutions. But I guess that’s better since it means you can adjust it in very fine increments. It just wasn’t super obvious – to me at least.

My other minor complaint, and one which I have no better solution to, is the air blast feature. It scares the crap out of you when you bump it by mistake – for instance, when nailing in a tight corner with your head between a wall and a cast iron radiator, carefully lining up a precise shot in the low light at a weird angle, holding your breath as you line it up just right…

I do like having the button, so I wouldn’t do away with it, It just made me wonder how many of these nailers have been dropped by people not knowing it’s there… “hey kid, could you grab me that nail gun”…

But even its marginal usefulness GREATLY outweighs my concerns about it.

The plastic nail slide makes me worry, but it also makes me really WANT to treat the nailer nicely. On a tool I didn’t care so much about I’d treat it poorly just to tempt the part to break just so I could b*&#$ about it. I like this nail gun too much for that kind of behavior. So it’s not a complaint, just a minor concern. If something happens to it and it becomes a complaint, I’ll update this review.

Meanwhile I highly recommend this nailer. (and for the record, mine came with the male air coupling installed on it. it’s not shown in the picture and I know many other manufacturers leave it out. Not that they’re particularly expensive or anything, but it was still nice to see)

    Simply the Best
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars

Well, this past x-mas I managed to convince the wife

that there really was a tool that I did not have and she

agreed to get me a small Campbell Hausfeld Air compressor.

    (See my review).

With the buy of my compressor, I was

in need of the nail guns-I bought four- 2 18 gauge Hitachi Brad nailers, A Campbell Hausfeld Framing Nailer, and finnally, the End nailer reviewed here.

The reason for this buy was the remodeling of

the Master Bedroom in my house.Faced with having to

install 80 feet of crown moulding, baseboard moulding

plus casement around the windows and doors, A end nailer was a certain must have.

Shopping at Lowes, I picked out a cheaper Tradesman brand nailer because:

    A) It was cheaper, and B)it came with a free bonus brad

    nail gun.

My wife Suggested we spend fifty dollars more

to get the higher quality Hitatchi model with a mail in

rebate for a free brad nailer.(okay, honey, you twisted

    my arm!)

The gun comes in a nice high quality plastic

hardshell case, and includes 2 allen keys for any needed

maintenence of the gun, such as clearing jams. I was

surprised there was no oil included, or nails for that

matter. But these items were cheap enough(About ten-fifteen

    dollars) so no huge deal.

This gun can fire nails up to 2and 1/2 inches long to

handle any trimwork project. The angled body lets it get

into tight spots easily, and the removeable no-mar tip

protects delicate mouldings from being scratched by the

tool. This tool made the moulding install a breeze.

There are some very clean features to this gun that

competitors models do not have such as a dust blower on

the gun that lets you use compressed air to blow away

debris, and a switch to go from sequential fire to bump

fire mode, where yo keep your finger on the trigger and

bump the gun into the workpiece to fire the nail.

The construction of this nailer is rugged, with a

metal body and rubber overmold grip. Nails loaded easily

throgh the back of the gun and I can happily say that I

fired a whole package of nails 2,000? without a single jam

    or misfire.

The nailer is a pale green color that grows on you with time. It is not as terrible as the obnoxious green and black color used on Hitachi’s power tools.

    Too loud
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
LOUD you got that right. I first bought this gun after holding my friends gun. This was certainly the lightest and best balanced gun I’d ever held. Everything seemed fantastic until I could feel the noise pressure against my ears. I wear enough ear protection; I don’t want to wear ear plugs for a end gun. So I returned it and just stuck with my Senco.

  25. Dr. D Says:

    Smooth operator
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have used this gun extensively on the job and haven’t had a single misfire or jam. It is smooth, comfortable, and you can blast your coworkers with the air feature it they get in your way. I had to tweak my hook a small to fit in the case but it closes fine with it on. Some other brands don’t. Do the designers ever use these in real life?

  26. Blackhawk Mountain Says:

Excellent gun w/ lots of power – I’d buy it again
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Bought this as a second end gun as my 10-year ancient Senco SFN40 was losing power (seems to be an issue with oil-less guns). The Hitachi has the power to sink 2 1/2″ nails in the toughest wood – in fact, in softer wood you cannot always dial it back enough so that the nail heads are flush. I cannot remember this gun ever jamming, where the Senco would jam occasionally near the end of a clip. The Hitachi is louder than the Senco, but it does more work! The rubber nose piece leaves marks that don’t come off (but there is a storage boss for it on the magazine). As mentioned in other reviews, the adjustable exhaust and blower are nice features, as is the switch for bump firing vs. single firing (although I doubt many people bump-fire a end gun). This would be the perfect gun if: it were quieter; the rubber nose didn’t mark; and it had the lockout feature to prevent blank firing when you’re out of nails.

I’ve only had the chance to use my new Hitachi Nailer on three window installations, but I like it already. It’s light weight and drives each fastner with precision. I’m looking forward to more projects this summer where I’ll be able to use it again. It’s a fantastic tool – I’m glad I bought it.

Fantastic Nailer, prefer professional look to new Hitachi models.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I initially bought the Milwaukee 15 Gauge Nailer and was very impressed with the lightness, style/looks, cost, reputation, warranty, included nails/oil/goggles etc. But, I’m a guru, and one feature of the Hitachi really impressed me. That was the very narrow nosepiece/safety mechanism. It really allows you to see where you are placing the nail. The Milwaukee nosepiece is very capable but quite wide. Upon trying the Hitachi out, I was further sold by how solid it feels when firing a nail. The Milwaukee has a descent bounce, and leaves a mark on soft wood without the bumper (which I prefer not to use). Further, the Hitachi has come down in price and has the same warranty. The Hitachi brand nails are available at Lowes and much cheaper than the Porter Cable nails at Home Depot. The blower is a nice touch, but honestly not vital too me. I prefer simplicity and execution more than features.

I went with the Hitachi, my first tool from this brand and am very satisfied. That said, if I was a contractor and wanted nailers that were tough, cheap, lighweight, fantastic warranty; give the Milwaukee lineup a serious look. The Hitachi came out of the box very oily, yet looks like a real quality piece of equipment. It’s aluminum vs Milwaukee’s magnesium, yet they are very similar in weight.

I am not a fan of Hitachi’s new “Terminator” look in the box stores. Makita pulled out their the lower quality tools in the box stores and went back to producing high quality tools that truly represent their brand. I reckon Hitachi is drifting away from professional towards goofy with their new look (especially in nailers where they are highly regarded).

  29. Shawn Barnes Says:

    Quality gun
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This has been a very excellent nail gun. Bought mine over two years ago and have been using it full time in production trim ever since. We have tried the new bostitch guns and they start breaking down after a few months. We have a porter-cable gun that has shot less nails and has had to be worked on several times. (Broken driver, clean out magazine, worn front plate allowing nails to missalign under driver). The only things I want to see added to this gun would be an

in-handle air filter (as on the ridgid/milwaukee) and a belt hook of some sort. Also a dry-fire lockout would be handy. This gun fires with such force it sounds the same weather you are shooting a nail or have ran out.

I have used the Senco 2.5 end nailer for about 10 yrs now. My buddy showed up with his new Hitachi. I was surprised how excellent looking it was and even more surprised wen I picked it up, really light. I plugged in the air, wow the power, but man is it loud. Doing crown moulding on a ladder next to the ceiling u should be wearing hearing protection and also in closets nailing off base or shelving it was really loud. Along with some ear plugs an getting used to the recoil it is a nice gun, but honestly, as a trim carpenter with over 30 yrs experience I wud pay an extra 50 bucks and go with the senco.
