I bought this nail gun to secure molding strips after I tiled the floor. It worked well. My only complaint is it took 2 weeks to receive and it was place in a larger box with very small packing, thus it bounced around in the box during shipping.

Worked fantastic for nailing about 30 nails. Then jammed. After I cleared the jam, it stopped working. I sent it to FPC Corporation, which is the manufacturer. That was a waste of time and money (for shipping). They did absolutely nothing to fix it and shipped the broken gun back.

I strongly suggest that you do not buy this product. I used it to attach a chair rail and some trim in one room. It worked fine for nearly an hour and then I smelled smoke; it stopped working. I had to borrow a friends’ nail gun in order to end my project. Get yourself a compressor style nail gun and save yourself the frustration.

I bought this tool with overnight delivery and came in a eventually did what I expected. Let me clarify.

I took the nailer out of the case, loaded it up with nails and the first nail jammed or that is what I thought. I started by using the instructions taking the cover off and started loosening the bolt, the hammer returned to normal and was not jammed anymore.

I reckon the bolts were over tightened. After that I went on and used the tool as expected.

It does matter what electric receptacle I use during the nailing, if the circuit has enough power, it nails the head down flush, if not; it leaves the head where you have to set it.

So far I like what it does. I use it for nailing quarter round down after new laminate installations.

I had this thing for awhile now and I like it very much. Initially I thought it was a dud, as I was having problem with it not driving the nails fully into the wood. After reading several reviews on the internet, I found out that using a 12 gauge extension cable or plugging it directly to the AC Outlet will yield better result when you’re having issues with the gun losing nail driving power. In fact I was so surprised how powerful it is (that I was playing with it like a kid in a candy store) that I used up all my nails.

In any case, people who reviewed it and gave it low marks due to it’s alleged lack of driving power, gave up to quickly. It works people. You just have to remember that this ain’t a hair dryer and has a much higher current (amperes) rating.

Note: A 12-gauge wire is wider than 14-gauge wire and thus has less resistance. The lesser resistance of 12-gauge wire means that it can allow charge to flow through it at a greater rate – that is, allow a larger current. Thus, 12-gauge wire can safely support a circuit that uses an appliance drawing up to 20 Amps of current.

A bargain priced item preforming equal to it’s price.

I wish I could rave about this product, but the simple truth is that it has a couple of shortcomings that need to be worked around if you plot on purchasing it.

Plot on using a dedicated 15amp (minimum) line with an appliance rated extension cord. Anything less will not do. Keep your tac hammer ready to clean up as any nailing into hardwood, regardless of the brad length will not flush to the surface on its own 9 out of 10 times.

If you can live with these limitations, this will be a useful tool for you. Certainly for the price one shouldn’t expect too much and although it is not a perfect machine, it does preform better than my expectations.

I bought this product to install quarter rounds in the bedroom. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I pressed on the gun, 90% of the nails wouldn’t go all the way through. I was also disappointed in the return policy.

Not so sure about Surebonder 5950 Electric Nailer

The Surebonder 5950 Electric Nailer arrived later than expected – the initial confirm email (May 03) from Uncle Joe’s said that a tracking number would be forward “ASAP”, but it never arrived – finally arrived on May 15 in excellent condition, but the nailer looks like it has been used. The Surebonder will not drive 1-1/4″ brads through 3/4″ pine moulding into particleboard – about 1/6″ remains above the moulding. It appears that the nailer has the power to drive 1″ brads, though I haven’t tried this yet. This heavy-duty nailer is better than the other “light duty” nailers available, but for real versatility, flush nailing through all trim materials, or extended use (for fences?), a pneumatic unit would be best.

The Best of a Poor Tool Style
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Compared to air tools electric drivers are just underpowered. The Surebonder is no different, it just has ‘more of not enough’.I drove lots of brads from 1/2″ to 1″ and right, it did drive each brad all the way to the head. But I had to be slow and deliberate, using both hands so there would be no reactive kickback (in which case it would not have driven the brad all the way to it’s head). Even with the Surebonder you are not going to be able to just ‘tap and shoot’ like air tools-slow and deliberate is the way this tool works. So why even have one of these ineffectual drivers? It’s to drive the small size nails of 3/8″-1″.As weak as electric drivers are, they are miles ahead of you and a tack hammer. They’re also cheaper than a compressor rig and simpler to store when finished. The brads hold better than hammer driven brads and the heads are simpler to hide. The huge plus-quick setup over a compressor..virtually plug it in and start shooting. So if you have just a bit of light driving to do-use the Surebonder, slow and steady,it’s the best of it’s type.

    Surebonder for the DIYer
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Surebonder 5950 Electric Nailer is a nice product. It uses brads from 3/8 inch to 1 and 1/4 inch 18 gauge. I used the Senco A209809 variety (size) pack of 1200 brad nails ($4.40)they have on this site and they are fine. I wish I had bought more but I wanted to make sure they fit and see first which sizes I use the most. Probably it will be the 3/4 inch, so I can then buy a whole pack of that size only. It is supposed to work with any 18 guage brads.

It is as simple to load and similar to loading a regular stapler. It comes in a sturdy plastic case that is about 12 by 12 by 3 inches, about the size of a small briefcase. It has a 12 foot cable and runs at 14.5 amps. It has a small opening to let you see if you are running out of nails.

They have a toll free number and urge you to call it if you are thinking of returning it, but I did not call it as I have no reason to call. They also place their regular phone and fax numbers on the packaging. This always gives me a excellent feeling to know you can get an answer to a question and indicates to me that a company cares about their customers and has confidence in their products.

I used it to nail together a 1/2 inch piece of plywood and a 2 by 4 and tried all sizes up to the 1 1/4 inch brad and they all went through. You must follow the directions and use both hands to drive the nail all the way in.

It left a small stub when I tried to drive a 1 inch brad all the way through a 1/2 inch piece of hardwood (it was scrap so I don’t know the species) and into the 1/2 inch plywood, I still was not disappointed as I don’t recall driving many nails all the way through a piece of hardwood, as glue is really the way to go there.

I am just a DIYer but it is so nice to be able to have this guy around as I was always hesitant to hand hammer all those small nails, but this is really a fantastic tool. I wish I had bought it earlier. It seems well designed and well built so if it lasts a few years it will be well worth it.

I’ve had the tool for a couple of weeks and tried out a number of nail lengths and am generally pleased. Amazon’s Price beat any other source I could find and delivery was quick.

Tool has enough power for putting light nails through pine molding into pine studs thru sheetrock, but using the longer nails into any harder wood results in needing to use the hammer / nail set process.

The Air Compressor powered units will definely have more power (and more cost). Given prioe, features, and results … this is a worthwhile add to one’s tool chest.

One note … when going to my local Lowes / Home Depot to buy Nails … those required for this (and similar) units are in the section with staples … not with the Power Nailer supplies.

I just received my Surebonder 5950 and have been using it all afternoon. It really does what it says it’ll do. It drives a 3/4 brad all the way to the head, at least in pine. All I’ve used so far is 3/4,, but I’ll bet the longer nails will work just as well. Two caveats. One: use only a 12 gauge extension cord. This is nearly fifteen amps and a sixteen gauge extension cord won’t handle the amperage. Two: hole the nailer hard against the wood or it’ll leave a small stub sticking up. Not a shortcoming, just the nature of the beast. Anyway, so far, I’m very pleased with this tool.
